into the caverns of tomorrow
Julie could barely wait to get back to Hogwarts. Since she lived in the castle for the majority of the year, it was strange to return to a small condo in bustling London, which was so different from her cozy quarters next to the Hospital Wing overlooking the student courtyards. Coming back to Hogwarts was like coming home, and as she stepped through the Hospital Wing for the first time, she inhaled with glee. Getting used to her surroundings again only took a day or so- waiting for the students to get back was almost worse than waiting the whole summer to return to the castle itself. The sorting ceremony and welcoming feast was always one of her favorite parts of the year. It was exciting to see all the new students excitedly and nervously go through their sorting and walk to their new house tables welcomed by cheering housemates. But the particular point in the night that she enjoyed most was when each member of staff stood and was introduced. It wasn't exciting, really, but it was nice to see all of her coworkers recognized (some of whom she hadn't had a chance to say hello to yet). They started with professors, introducing each and allowing them to stand and have the students make some mental notes. Julie positively beamed throughout the entire process, but her eyes kept flicking back to one individual, seated much closer to the headmaster than she was (she was at one of the tables turned sideways on either end, but she didn't mind). When it came to be the support staff's turn, she jumped up and gave a wave upon the calling of her own name. After the feast, there was an hour or so where she was in her office talking to a few students who required regular or special care. Generally, these students were all very polite, interesting, and friendly. That made her job significantly easier and more enjoyable. Despite this, she was anxious for these short appointments to be over with. There was someone that she wanted to go and see. She didn't bother going to the moving staircases, opting instead to run up the three stationary and longer flights. It was faster, but she approached the officer around the corner slightly out of breath. At the end of the hallway, it had his name burned across the door. She sucked in a breath, and exhaling a smile, rapped three times on the door. we must plunge |
